Recipe: Winter Start Breakfast Cereal

In celebration of our upcoming cross country ski trip this weekend, I thought I would share my favourite warm + start me up breakfast for a long day on the snow!


Winter Start Breakfast Cereal

What you’ll need:

Quick cooking cereal of your choice ( I used cream of wheat this time)
– cream of wheat
– red river cereal
– quinoa
– bulgar
– oatmeal

Cook your cereal according to instructions. (I also sub half of the water for milk on a high activity level day to get a little extra protein)

While you cereal is cooking add any of the following + stir

– sprinkle of cinnamon
– dash of pure vanilla extract

When you cereal is cooked, fill you fav bowl up + add any of the following

-1 tsp uncooked bulgar ( bulgar is quite a large + crunchy wheat product, so soak it in some warm water while your cereal is cooking and then drain and add)
– 1/2 tsp chia seeds
– 1/2 tsp hemp hearts
– 1/8 tsp bee pollen
– 1/2 tsp shredded unsweetened coconut
– 1/8 tsp cacao powder
– sprinkling of almond or pecan pieces
– 1-2 tsp of a berry based jam, I use raspberry
– 1/2-1tsp brown sugar if you have sweet tooth
– drizzle a bit of milk of your choice on top

Mix it all together + enjoy!
